Castle Air Museum invites community to share holiday cheer at Christmas Plane Lane

Dec 10, 2009

On the evenings of Dec. 18 through Dec. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m., colorful Christmas lights will surround many of the aircraft at Castle Air Museum, located at 5050 Santa Fe Drive in Atwater.

It will be time to get into the holiday spirit by sharing the Fourth Annual Christmas Plane Lane with the kindly folks at the Air Museum.
During these evenings, guests can stroll the decorated, tree-filled grounds, look at the military aircraft, and listen to the joyous music of the season.
About the air museum, Joe Pruzzo, Executive Director, said, proudly, “We’re one of the biggest air museums on the West Coast. There are 51 aircraft.”
He continued, “We’re working toward putting in an exhibit hall, if we get a grant, and it will be a one-and-a-quarter-acre building. It will be used to host organizations that want to have a function amongst several aircraft.”
Describing the upcoming event, Pruzzo explained, “Christmas Plane Lane is designed for families to come out and enjoy the season for a very reasonable cost. We’re going to make it as warm and festive an atmosphere as we can, with decorations such as bows and lights. Museum volunteers and three Castle Bomber Roller Derby team members have been out to decorate, and there will be a lot of lights on the grounds. We will have holiday blow-up decorations on the grounds. There will be a snowman, Santa on a plane, and a sleigh. We’ll have a Christmas tree, and we’ll put some lights on it. Santa will be here, indoors, and the kids can tell him what they want from their list. Our gift shop will be stocked with toys, toy airplanes, shirts, jackets, hats  --- the whole gamut.”
“Santa’s sleigh”, picturesquely positioned near an aircraft, will be a great place to take a photo! Children can sit on a roomy bench and pretend to guide Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve.
During the crisp, cool evenings, a welcome cup of hot coffee or a cup of steaming hot chocolate can be purchased for $1, and children can munch on the complimentary freshly-baked cookies in the Flight of Fancy café. .
Yvonne James, who is on the Castle Air Museum Board of Directors and plans to hand out cookies during the event, added, “Carolers will be out on the grounds. Any carolers who are interested in singing are welcome to call the air museum and set up a time to sing for the people.”
The admission price for Christmas Plane Lane is $3.00 per person. For further information, or to donate lights or other decorations, those interested can contact the air museum at (209) 723-2178.
