The Magic’ of the County Fair

Crazy wet May weather has given way to
glorious sunny skies and temperatures that will hit the
upper 80s and mild 90s — just in time for the Merced
County Fair, the biggest annual event in town.
The fun begins Wednesday night, June 5, with Mercy Medical
Center’s “We Care Wednesday” presented
by MERCO Credit Union. Don’t forget the Community
Food drive. You can get into the fair FREE from 5 p.m. until
7 p.m. when you bring 5 or more cans of food to any of the
entrance gates. Wednesday is also Senior’s Day, so
people 62 or better get in FREE!
Kids’ Day, presented by Emanuel Medical Center, is
Thursday, June 6, and critters 12 and under get in FREE.
Children 5 and under, by the way, are always FREE!
From carnival rides to fun food on the midway, exciting
exhibits and grandstand entertainment, there’s something
for everyone at the County Fair.
Don’t miss the FREE with admission Table Mountain
Concert Series, including James Garner’s Tribute to
Johnny Cash (June 5), Country Artists Tribute to Toby Keith,
Kenny Chesney & Jason Aldean (June 6), Morris Day &
The Time (June 7), Canaan Smith (June 8), and Gracie as
Jenni, a tribute to Jenni Rivera (June 9).
In the Grandstand, there’s also FREE auto racing (June
5), Freestyle Moto X (June 6), Tractor Pulls (June 7), Bull
Riding, (June 8) and the Gran Jaripeo celebration (June
Our local FFA students will be competing during the day
starting Tuesday, June 4, and all week long, culminating
with the Jr. Livestock Auction on Saturday, June 8. While
these daytime events are not open to the public, don’t
forget to stop by the livestock area and the Hilmar Cheese
Barn and show your support for FFA!
Fair hours are: Wednesday - Friday, 5 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.;
Saturday & Sunday, 3 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.
